Trading places Intro: A highly influential intro for our group.

INFLUENCES!

We chose this intro as it shows a grat contrast between two areas. Thats exactly what we want to accomplish with our main task.

*New Media Plot* (Treatment) - Final

Media Plot

The story begins with an establishing shot of a rundown area (undecided) revealing the first character for the first time. A cross- cut is then used to switch to an establishing shot of an affluent area showing the second character. This focuses on the contrast between the two areas. The two characters are shown at opposite ends of Manchester.

The story then unfolds as the two characters make their daily commute through the two different areas with cross cuts and also some close ups of the characters. The plot then deepens as they near each other unknowingly.

As the two characters pass each other at the corner of a road, the characters stare confused at each other for a brief moment (this will be emphasised through the use of slow motion and close-ups). Both characters look back at different times as the pace of their walk slows considerably due to the confusion. Why each character seems so bemused will be unknown to the viewer and leaves many questions as to why they reacted in such a puzzled way.

Plot (Treatment) * NEW PLOT* (improved)

Since we last uploaded the treatment, as a group we decided that the plot should be altered. We felt this was due to the initial plot being to common and complex, making it very difficult to capture on film. We are pleased with the new plot, the next stage is to decide which shots are to be used, by creating a shot list and a storyboard.
The plot will be added on a seperate post.

Treatment

Treatment/Story for Media Coursework
Main Task

A mysterious man wakes up dazed in a specific location in Manchester. He looks around as he acknowledges his surroundings wondering how he ended up being in this situation. He finds a mobile phone in his possession and notices multiple missed calls from an unknown number. As he slowly moves away from where he lay dazed, he has flashbacks of past occurrences which took place before he woke up. Suddenly an urgent look appears on his face and he starts to turn around and once again 360/180 degree looks at his surroundings. Now there’s urgency to his walk. As he makes his way down an alleyway/up a flight of outdoor stairs for a short cut, a tall dark figure awaits him and it seems only too natural for the main character to be drawn towards his figure.

Starting the main task

Today we added the finishing touches to the preliminary task and started to brainstorm our main task. We then made a draft paragraph based on our brainstorm notes which explains the story of the opening two minutes of our clip for the main task.

Fourth Lesson

As we finished off filming our clip, we eventually starting editing it. Whilst adding transitions to our clip and putting scenes together, the clip started to take shape and now just requires finishing touches.

Preliminary task filming

In our third week into coursework we started filming the preliminary task as all previous requirements had been met. Our group managed to capture most of the clip in the lesson and left us with minimal filming to do the following week. As decided, Ryan was the main actor in the clip with simone contributing by filming. With Ryan doing the majority of acting, Josh and Callum worked with the camera deciding on camera angles and the structure of scenes.

Preparing for the preliminary task

In our second lesson into our coursework we viewed a students film intro to gain ideas on how to assemble our preliminary task. As a group we also made a shot list before filming so we had an idea of how to structure it. After these tasks had been completed we went around college with the camera to educate ourselves with the camera's uses.
